Introduction to Jeju, South Korea
The Island of the Gods, as Jeju is affectionately known, earns its title with its balmy subtropical climate, volcanic landscape and relaxed friendly locals. This is South Korea's most popular domestic tourist destination as well as its number one spot to have a honeymoon, so be prepared to share the space with roving bands of Koreans on holiday. Its natural highlight is Mt Halla, a cool volcanic caldera with velvety slopes and a turquoise lake in its crater. It is a superb hiking spot that should be added to every itinerary. Jeju City is the unremarkable capital and entry point to the island. Most of the attractions are away from the city, so don't plan to linger long. Seogwipo is the main city on the other side of the island to the capital and convenient to many of the top sights. Jeju hotels are scattered all over, with modest seaside pensions and predictable city hotels dominating the scene in both Jeju City and Seogwipo. Folk villages showcase the unique culture of Jeju, while a selection of museums, botanic gardens and special natural sites provide more than enough sightseeing for a weekend getaway.Visit our Jeju Travel Guide
