Introduction to Boeun, South Korea
Boeun, or Boeun-gun, is a county located in the South Korean province of North Chungcheong. A dramatic mountainous area, the province is known for the production of tasty fruit from the Jujbe tree as well as nature parks, mountain tours and a popular temple. Many of the local sights are within the rugged scenery of the Sobaek Mountains. Beopjusa Temple, which sits on the slopes of the impressive Mount Songnisan in Naesongni, is one of the most popular destinations. The wooden five-storey structure looks fantastic and provides incredible views of the local countryside, but the biggest attraction is the huge bronze Buddha. The annual Songnisan Fall Festival takes place in the national park of the same name and is a big tourist draw. The area around Mount Songnisan is popular with hikers and climbers alike. History buffs should enjoy Samnyeonsanseong fortress, which also provides beautiful views over the hilly region. Hotels in Boeun cater to many tourists and are mostly located close to the excellent highways surrounding the area. The bus terminal offers an efficient way to get into the area.
