Things To Do

Things To Do in Johannesburg
Nightlife: the Market Theatre in Newtown stages well-received performances and showcases local talent. In addition, one of the best theatres in the country is Johannesburg’s Civic Theatre, which features a wide variety of performances, including musicals and operas.
If you like to check out the bars, a trip to Melrose Arch is recommended, where you can spend the evening with the rich and famous of Jo’burg. The suburb of Melville is a popular place, featuring excellent restaurants and lively bars, all within walking distance of each other, along 7th street and Main.
Sun City and Gold Reef City: Sun City is an ideal place for the family to visit, offering great variety in attractions. There’s even a manmade beach here, known as the Valley of the Waves, boasting a machine that produces waves of up to two metres high. Other favourite activities here include horseback riding, quad biking and archery.
Gold Reef City features rides that thrill-seekers love, including some of South Africa’s best rollercoasters. Clearly there’s plenty of action for the youngsters here, and the adults won’t be disappointed either, as there’s excellent live music on offer and a casino on site as well.
Visit a township: and learn more about what life was like in apartheid Africa. The country’s largest township is Soweto, which has become the premier attraction for tourists visiting Jo’burg. You’ll find many residents to be very friendly, and although Soweto still reports high crime figures, it is considered a safe place to visit on a guided tour.
