One popular area for enjoying a few drinks is the trendy suburb of Melville - most particularly in the student area of the Newtown Cultural Precinct; while Rivonia boasts even trendier and more expensive clubs. Carfax in Newtown is a highly-rated venue; and the Blues Room at Village Walk in Sandton is reported to be a good place to enjoy a drink or two while listening to some of Jo’burg’s best live jazz.
The range of options is quite amazing. For example, there’s Radium Beer Hall, located in Orange Grove, a place that’s been in business since 1929; and at the other end of the spectrum, there’s the much more upscale Monsoon Lagoon at Caesar's Palace – where the music of DJ Sebastian is guaranteed to create an adrenaline rush. Other nightclubs worth visiting include Back o' the Moon, which is in the Gold Reef City Casino, and Kilimanjaro, which you’ll find at Melrose Arch.
