Johannesburg, known to most everyone in South Africa as Jo'burg, is the country’s largest city, with over three million residents. Located in the middle of Gauteng province, the city’s economy has long been linked to the gold industry; and in spite of the fact that many of the area mines are no longer producing gold, the influence of the industry is still evident.
