Since the end of apartheid, air traffic into the country has increased dramatically, with the growth of interest in South Africa as a tourist destination. One of the busiest airports on the African continent, it handles more than 13 million passengers annually, and employs over 18,000 staff to keep operations running smoothly and efficiently.
Domestic flights arrive daily from Bloemfontaine, Cape Town, Durban, Kimberley, Port Elizabeth and several other cities – and also from the major capital cities of other African countries.
This airport is huge, comprising six terminals, all connected by free shuttle bus service. Spread throughout the facility you’ll find ATMs, currency exchanges, numerous eating, drinking and shopping venues and also wireless internet hotspots. Facilities for the disabled include ramps that are located throughout the terminals and also several lifts that are equipped with Braille signage.
A number of surface lots, a multi-storey car park and an underground car park provide for short- and long-term parking needs; reserved parking spaces for handicapped persons are also available. All major car hire companies have counters in the domestic arrivals area of the airport.

Information on public transportation is available at the transport counter, found in the domestic arrivals area. Major car hire companies are represented at the airport, and are also located in the domestic arrivals area. The transfer time to centre city is around 45 minutes.
Parking: Johannesburg’s airport offers underground, surface and multi-storey car parking options, all of which are quite close to the main terminal building. Shuttle buses connect the more distant lots with the passenger terminals, operating every five minutes.
