Water sport: scuba diving is very popular off Durban, with the Outer Anchorage, situated to the east of the Anchorage Beacon, and Dolphin bay, located at the Umhlanga Rocks, being the top spots. Daily cruises of the harbour and along the coastline are available, offered by companies such as Albatross Sailing Adventures, and others operating out of the harbour area.
Dolphin experience: an excellent chance to see dolphins up close is to join a group on a six-metre rubber boat and venture out into the ocean to where the dolphins play. You’ll see them in their natural environment, and be amazed at how interested they are in humans – and how friendly they are.
Bird-watching along the Umgeni River: set amid lush riverside vegetation and dramatic waterfalls, you’ll see birds out in the wild and also in walk-through aviaries. Considered one of the finest of the world’s bird parks, some of the rarest birds on the planet are represented here – alongside some of the most colourful macaws and flamingos you’ll see anywhere.
Hindu temple: noteworthy architectural examples include the Ganesa Temple, located on Park Station road, the North Indian Hindu Temple on Somtseu road and the Umgeni Road Temple Compound.
