Hoerikwaggo Table Mountain Trail: is a three-day hiking experience you’re not likely to forget. Designed with comfort and exploration of the area’s culture, natural beauty and gourmet fare in mind, this trip up the mountain is professionally-guided, and is accompanied by porters and chefs as well. You’ll visit the major historical sights of the city, take in the gorgeous gardens and the natural World Heritage site over the duration of the trip.
Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve: from the reserve you can walk out to the southernmost point on the African continent. A variety of native species roam free here, including baboons, ostrich and zebra. The beaches and the ocean views are spectacular, and it seems that there’s usually no one else around.
Shopping: and you’ll find that the selection and value are unbeatable. The range of goods includes items that are distinctively South African and also fabric and furnishings in an Afro-modern style. There are craft markets for you to explore and upscale shopping malls, antique shops and art galleries to browse.
If you fancy something that’s a bit too large to carry on the plane, it’s quite straightforward to arrange shipping of your purchases. Areas that you might find of particular interest are along Canal Walk, in Century City and around Ratanga Junction.
Swim with the Penguin: the Boulders is one of the few spots in the world where you can swim with penguins. Located on the road leading to Cape Hope, a few minutes away from Simon’s Town, this grouping of huge granite boulders forms a number of small sheltered bays that are breeding grounds for a colony of African penguins.
The penguins come to the main beach, and you can swim from there; but the best views to be had are from the raised boardwalk that overlooks Foxy Beach, where there’s more penguin activity.
