There are four Sun City hotels and they are called, The Cabanas, Cascades Hotel, Sun City Hotel and The Palace of the Lost City. This enormous leisure and casino complex is around two hours driving time north of Johannesburg. Other accommodations here include time-share serviced apartments. Hotels in Sun City are invariably higher end outfits as this is a leisure complex marketed to more omneyed travellers. Visiting entertainment acts that have appeared here since the opening in the late 1970s have included some of the biggest names in showbusiness and the complex has continued to thrive in the post-apartheid South Africa. Sun City hotels are very rarely booked completely out, though if a big name entertainment act is appearing at the arena at the same time that a major sporting festival is taking place within the perimetre, rooms can quickly become scarce. In these times, many hotels in Johannesburg take up the extra visitor traffic.
