One of South Africa's most popular seaside resort towns, Margate is set on the scenic coast of southern KwaZulu-Natal and attracts sun-seeking holidaymakers, surfers, snorkellers and those looking for top-notch nightlife and seafood. Scuba diving here is some of the best anywhere in the region, as tropical fish species are plentiful in and around the coral reefs just offshore. However, for a day off the beach or for those not big on sun-tanning and swimming, there are several additional attractions here, including the Riverbend Crocodile Farm, which has in excess of 200 Nile crocodile adults and dozens of juveniles and is set on a lush, scenic estate with dozens of fascinating bird species as well. Just down the road is Margate Country Club, which boasts 18 challenging holes and a strong reputation for inviting hospitality.
