Some 70 miles inland from Cape Town across the Boland Mountains, the town of Ceres boasts breathtaking mountain views and superb access to fantastic outdoor activities in the nearby Ceres Mountain Fynbos Nature Reserve and Wittebrug Nature Reserve, which are separated by the N1 and Theronsberg Pass. Those passing by this area will find themselves stopping at a series of beautiful scenic overlooks of the Hex River Mountains. Snow often caps the mountaintops here and many say it creates a South African version of Swiss scenery. Some of the finest peaches, apples, nectarines and pears in all of South Africa are grown in the farmland surrounding Ceres. Many visitors flock here to enjoy world-class trout fishing in the Dwars River, which flows through the west side of town and on to a series of scenic pools and sections of rapids.
