Introduction to Cape Town - Saint James
The picturesque community of St James feels more like a rural seaside village than a Cape Town suburb, despite its proximity to South Africa's 'Mother City.' Colourful Victorian-era beach huts still line the main beach's shores and several Saint James hotels are housed within the stately stone houses which once earned the community the nickname of 'Millionaire's Mile'. Fortunately, little money is now required to relax on the nearby False Bay Coast beaches, which are generally less crowded and whose waters are generally warmer than their Atlantic Ocean counterparts. These beaches are well sheltered from the city's strong westerly winds. The main beach's manmade tidal pool is even warmer than its surrounding oceans and its calm waters make it the best place for children to safely swim. Some locals, however, prefer the smaller and quieter Danger Bay Beach. Surfers seeking challenging waves can easily walk from here to Muizenberg's legendary Surfers' Corner via a coastal pathway.Visit our Cape Town Travel Guide
