The magnificent 12 Apostles mountain range towers over the affluent coastal suburb of Camps Bay. Although this community lies just a 15-minute drive from South Africa's 'Mother City,' it often feels more like a rural beach resort than a city suburb. There are dozens of Camps Bay hotels and renowned restaurants here. Lui Bay boasts the best diving of all the beaches here, while boulders provide shelter to the tiny Oudekraal beaches. Bakoven, where several sheltered coves are found, received its name from a nearby large rock which appears to have an oven door at one side. Unfortunately, only locals are permitted to ride the waves at Glen Beach, the best surfing beach here. However, no beach here is larger than the main Blue Flag beach sharing the community's name. The beachfront is safe for walking at all hours of the day and night. Visitors can purchase handmade crafts from across the continent at Koeel Bay African open-air market.
