Bled - explore the historical Castle of Bled
Perched high over Lake Bled is where the Castle of Bled is situated. It resembles something from out of a fairytale. Parts of the castle are over 1,000 years old and it boasts of its own moat and drawbridge. Much of the building is still intact, and there is plenty to discover and explore, with the gothic chapel and ramparts, being the most interesting. Because of its high location, the castle also offers excellent views over the lake and surrouniding countryside.
Ljubljana - take a stroll in the Tromostovje
The central part of Tromostovje or Triple Bridge, in Ljubljana dates back to 1842 and in 1929, two extra side bridges for pedestrians were added. Today the bridge now has very restricted vehicle access, so it has now become a triple pedestrian bridge. Located at the entrance to the Old Town, it is popular for locals, who enjoy taking a cool stroll over the water during the warm, summer months.
Maribor - explore the ancient city of Lent
The city of Lent has many historic buildings to explore. During the summer the city hosts a major cultural festival that people from all around the region come to. The city is also home to the world’s oldest grape vine, that is still producing grapes, and thought to be over 400 years old although less than 100 small bottles of wine are now produced from it. For those that do not like walking too much, maybe go on a unique rafting tour, along the River Drava, where many of the old buildings can be seen.
Piran - soak up the atmoshere of the old town
The whole of the town of Piran has been declared as a cultural monument, due to its 500 years of history, and its unique disposition, on a spit of land, out into the Adriatic. This narrow strip of land, has meant that the streets of this town are very narrow and add to the excitement of exploring the town. There are also exciting cycles paths around the area, as well as a number of wineries, where you can sample the locally made wines.
