At the centre of the island, standing sentinel on the highest point, is a massive replica of the Merlion which is seen at the mouth of the Singapore river, and is the official mascot of Singapore. There is a long broad staircase avenue leading up to it with water features and ponds at the base featuring a musical fountain.
Images of Singapore: takes you back in time through the island’s history, including its early founding days, WWII struggles and recent growth of the island. It’s a commendable active museum with multi-media shows and exhibits.
Fort Siloso: is a real fort, dating from the 19th Century, with several of its relics intact and a fascinating tour that covers the history of the fort as a defence unit for the island through to its recent use as a prison. It’s situated conveniently close to the beach and aquarium.
Fantasy Island: is a must for those with kids, it’s a giant water park and offers a fantastic way to pass a hot day with its numerous water slides, pools, mock river rafting and entertainment complex.
The Asian Village: recreates life in a typical settlement in this neck of the woods from way back when, before Singapore was heavily developed. There is also a hotel on the island and casino, along with several restaurants ranging from upmarket seafood venues to snack counters.
