Introduction to Singapore - Katong
Katong is named after an extinct, exotic sea turtle and boasts a unique cuisine, 20kms of stunning beach and many of Singapore's most wealthy residents. Found along the coast of the Singapore Strait, this area is best known for its Peranakan culture and a trip to the Joo Chiat neighbourhood is a great way to witness this heritage. Here, visitors will see rows of beautiful Peranakan shop houses selling souvenirs, tea and dumplings. Much of the architecture here is preserved as a national heritage site. East Coast Park, which is the largest park in all of Singapore, can be found in Katong and is a great place to enjoy a leisurely afternoon. There is no shortage of Katong hotels, some of which offer stunning views of the strait.
