Museums & Galleries in Seychelles
Two venues, the National Museum of History and the Seychelles Natural History Museum, provide the essential background on the region’s history; while a small selection of private galleries cater to those seeking aesthetic pleasures.
National Museum of History: giving visitors an insight into the interesting events of the Seychelles islands’ past, this museum on Mahe is home to artefacts collected from across the archipelago and dating back to the days of the earliest settlers.
Archives stretch right back to the early 1770s to the time of the island's first settlers. Among the artefacts visitors can peruse are a large collection of photographs dating back to the earliest days of camera technology.
Cafe des Art: this small gallery based in a chic little cafe exhibits the works of local artists such as Michael Adams, Sheila Markham and Christine Harter. Paintings, sculptures and crafts are among the pieces available for viewing.
Seychelles Natural History Museum: learn about the fascinating selection of flora and fauna now and previously supported by the region’s ecosystem at this interesting and popular museum on the island of Mahe.
