Alphonse, Desroches, Fregate, Bird Island and Silhouette are among the smaller islands offering accommodation options; some visitors choose to base themselves at these locations for the duration of their holiday in order to enjoy the added peace and tranquillity; while others make day or overnight trips to sample the secluded beaches and flora-rich national parks.
The Seychelles is not a destination one chooses for a fast-paced, action packed, non-stop holiday – quite the opposite in fact, as even on the three main islands, the greatest appeal is the sleepy ambience afforded by the slow pace of life, the hot weather, the tranquil beaches and the lack of overdevelopment. Mahe, Praslin and La Digue offer the perfect balance of natural beauty with modern tourist facilities and transportation options.
Dining is a focal part of holidaying on the islands and the local cuisine of Mahe, Praslin and La Digue is likely to impress even the most discerning of gastronomic experts, with traditional eateries offering the best in authentic Creole food. Sample the most delicious seafood, exotically flavoured curries and sweet fruits and vegetables grown locally in the fresh sea air. Opt for an all-inclusive deal and you can eat what you like, when you like and in huge quantities if the desire takes you!
An international airport located just outside of Victoria on Mahe is the chief gateway to the region and the only facility serving scheduled flights from international destinations. Once on Mahe, there are air and sea options available for transferring to other islands; while buses, taxis and hire cars are available for getting around within each island.
