Silhouette Island is a lush, forest-covered island in the Seychelles that is popular with hikers and nature lovers. Situated 19kms from Male, the main tourist island in the Seychelles, this pristine island has no infrastructure. There are no roads, facilities or other human structures here. Most people visit Silhouette Island as a day trip from Male in order to hike to one of its five granite peaks or check out some of the rare flora like carnivorous pitcher plants or giant palms. Such is its biodiversity value, that the government recently declared 93 per cent of the island a new national park. As there are no Silhouette Island hotels available, the best option is to stay on Male, which has a large and well-developed tourism infrastructure. To reach the island you can take a boat or a helicopter. As there are no facilities, visitors often opt to go with a tour group for their trekking.
