Introduction to Praslin Island - Anse Petit Cour
Praslin Island, with its wealth of natural beauty, entertainment and activities, is the second-largest of the Seychelles archipelago, set 44kms to the northeast of Mahe, with a population of some 6,500 permanent residents. Originally a pirate stronghold and base for Arab merchants, it's now a well-known tourist haunt holding several resorts and hotels set along its beautiful coastline and beaches. Anse Petit Cour lies on the northeastern coastline of the island, on a lovely sheltered bay with azure waters and a coral reef just offshore; perfect for swimming and snorkelling. Anse Petit Cour hotels are mostly in resort form, with private beaches and luxury amenities. These include good restaurants, with a choice of Creole or Western dishes, plus well-organised nightlife and entertainment. Attractive former colonial mansions set in lush tropical gardens have been converted to serve the island's tourist industry, and cruises, water sports and fishing are favourite diversions when lazing on the beaches. Inland, hiking and walking trails lead through forests and across streams and small rivers.
