Introduction to Mahe Island - Bel Ombre
Set at the northernmost point of Mahe Island is Bel Ombre, a Seychelles administrative district with a charming fishing harbour, beaches, water sports and a intriguing history. Fisherman's Cove is a lovely small white sand bay with a luxury hotel set back from the waters' edge. The tourist resort and residential district of Bel Ombre village is well set up with tourist amenities. Legends are strong in this part of the island, with strange engraved stones at the beach reputedly relating in code to pirate treasure. The mystery has yet to be solved, with the last part of the code unbroken. Bel Ombre hotels are set along the coast, varying between representatives of upscale chains and more affordable lodging such as bungalows, guest houses, traditionally furnished beach houses and bed and breakfasts.
