Introduction to Mahe Island - Anse Boileau
The peaceful bay of Anse Boileau cuts a long, graceful curve across the tree-lined shores of Mahe Island, the largest in the Seychelles archipelago. The coastal road runs back of the beach, used at both ends of the bay by local fishermen to sell their just-unloaded daily catch. The beach itself is a mix of soft and grainy sand and is flat, with its shallow waters impossible for swimmers at low tide. Relaxing in the shade of the coconut palms and Takamaka trees, which line the beach, is great all day long activity, with a mangrove forest and small bird sanctuary also close by. Anse Boileau hotels are represented by beachside guesthouses, with a few seafood restaurants overlooking the strand and serving the catch of the day together with delicious desserts, such as coconut cake soaked in the locally made Takamaka rum. For energetic types, the two mountains of Dondee and Barbarons are nearby, with good hiking and walking trails. Visit our Mahe Island Travel Guide
