Introduction to Mahe Island - Anse aux Pins
The paradise destination of Mahe Island is only 27kms long and eight kilometres at its widest point, with forested mountainous interiors, remote beaches to the south and west and well-developed tourist facilities to the north and east. It is the largest in the Seychelles archipelago, famous for its superb tropical beaches and laid-back lifestyle. Set in the northeastern part of the group, its northern and eastern districts are home to its international airport and most of the island's population. Located on the western coastline, Anse aux Pins has narrow, rough-sand beaches with shallow seas, almost covered at high tide. Anse aux Pins hotels and other lodgings lie close to the beach and are often set in charming Creole-style colonial houses converted for tourism purposes. The beach is used by the local fishing communities as a landing place for the daily catch. It is a perfect people-watching spot but refreshingly quiet during the off-season.
