La Somone is a seaside resort town along the coast of Senegal. Numerous vacation homes dot the hills above the traditional Lebou fishing village. There are also a handful of La Somone hotels in the area, especially along the ocean. This central coast region is known for its natural attraction like Bandia Nature Preserve, the village of Joal Fadiot and the Sine Saloum islands. An easy drive from town is the historic island of Goree, which was once home to the House of Slaves, from where slaves were shipped to the Americas. This thought-provoking site is now protected by UNESCO. The village of La Somone has a few amenities for visitors, including basic restaurants, bars, handicraft shops and a colourful local market. The beaches around the village are quite lovely, with white sand and clear water. As far as Senegal goes, this area is considered safe and welcoming to foreign tourists.
