Scotland Street School Museum: a specialist museum that covers the history of education in Scotland through a combination of displays, audio-visuals and reconstructed and restored classrooms. The museum was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1906, and the cookery room, cloakrooms and ceramic-tiled drill hall have been restored to the original designs.
There are three classroom reconstructions that show the evolution of the schoolroom from the Victorian era through to the classroom of the 1950s and ’60s. Visitors can also read former pupils’ recollections of topics such as school attire, discipline, and evacuation during WWII.
Scotland St. Open 10:00 to 17:00, Mon-Thu and Sat; 11:00 to 17:00, Fri and Sun.
Shipbuilding was an important industry in the area and the Clyde room contains nearly 250 ship models such as the Queen Mary, Howe, Hood and Queen Elizabeth. Glasgow also has a long railway heritage and there are several famous locomotives on display.
