There are plenty of buses serving the city and surrounding areas. An integrated Roundabout ticket is available for return journeys, which covers both the buses and underground. A Zone Card is useful if you are staying for a week or more and prices depend on the number of zones you need to travel across.
The Underground: Glasgow is the only Scottish city that has an underground rail system. There are 15 stations on the 6-mile loop that runs through the city centre and West End. There is a connection to the overland railway stations at Queen street station via Buchanan street, as well as the commuter network at Partick station. Trains runs every 4-8 minutes from Monday to Saturday, early morning to late evening. A more limited service operates on Sundays.
Routes 9, 12, 40, 62 operate throughout the night and tickets are more expensive. Make sure you have the correct change as drivers do not carry any cash for safety reasons. Deposit your money in the slot when boarding the bus. A FirstDay pass can be purchased that allows you to use the buses from 09:30 to midnight.
Train: the large suburban train network is run by First Scotrail and has a wide choice of routes that radiate out from the Queen street and Central stations. Frustratingly, there is currently no connection across the River Clyde that divides the city. Tickets can be purchased from the ticket machines or counters located in the stations.
