February Festivals
Aye Write Book Festival: this new festival is aiming to become an annual event and focuses on encouraging reading, writing and creativity. It is a celebration of local talent and an invitation to international writers. There are also a number of schools’ programmes to accompany the festival.
March Festivals
The Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival: runs for 17 days in March and is spread over 39 venues around the city. Top names including Paul Merton, Alan Carr and Russell Brand have attended in the past and there is a separate programme exclusively for children.
May Festivals
Maydaze: has a varied programme of traditional and contemporary music, community performances and special events. It starts with the Mayday Rally and culminates in a family event within the City Halls and Old Fruit Market.
July Festivals
The Glasgow River Festival: held in July, this festival is now a regular on the city's events calendar. The festival celebrates the past, present and future of Glasgow's historic waterfront.
August Festivals
Pedal for Scotland: takes place in August and features a 47.5 mile ride from Glasgow's George Square to Edinburgh's Roseburn Park. The following day is the Glasgow Grand Prix, a high-speed circuit race around the streets of Glasgow city centre. The third day of the festival sees the Tour of Britain, which attracts international riders for a 115-mile race around Glasgow, Castle Douglas and Galloway.
September Festivals
Merchant City Festival: consists of theatre, comedy, visual arts, film, street theatre, live music, food and fashion. It takes place in September within the architectural elegance of the Merchant City.
December Festivals
Hogmanay: is the traditional Scottish celebration for seeing in the new year. Tens of thousands of revellers descend on George Square and other venues across the city for festivities, including live performances from contemporary pop to traditional Scottish folk and fiddle music.
