Although bagpipes, shortbread, tartan and whisky all feature prominently, the capital city is also noted for it attractions in the arts, in cultural and sporting events and of course is noted for playing host to the largest arts festival in the world. The city also boasts a lively nightlife scene, replete with stylish bars, restaurants, clubs and live entertainment venues.
The city centre is graced with parks and green spaces; and a number of outdoor sports fields and venues are scattered throughout the metropolitan area. As you wander through the city, you’ll be pleased to find that this is a good place to shop, with good value to be found at many of the retail outlets.
Edinburgh was built atop an extinct volcano on a North Sea inlet and is surrounded by lakes, forests and rolling hills. It’s truly a city better experienced by walking as you will pass through picturesque, cobbled streets of the Old Town and the elegant streets of New Town as well as lovely squares and crescents. From the battlements and other hilltops, you can take in stunning panoramic views.
