Rail links connect Aberdeen to numerous major cities in Britain, while the city’s status as a major oil producer means it has numerous air links to the likes of London, Paris and Amsterdam. Getting here by road can be arduous but at the same time makes the perfect excuse to take in the surrounding scenery.
By rail: Aberdeen’s rail links are considerable even if journeys to London King’s Cross and Penzance on the tip of Cornwall, the longest rail route in Britain, are time-consuming. Scot Rail serves all the major destinations north of the border, including Edinburgh and Glasgow.
By air: Dyce Airport, just seven miles outside the city, features regular flights to London and other major European hubs on airlines including British Airways, Air France and KLM. Flights also connect with numerous destinations in Scandinavia like Copenhagen and Oslo. Budget airlines are also increasingly flying here, meaning the cost of Aberdeen flights is now quite reasonable.
By ferry: passenger shipping routes are limited but it is possible to reach Aberdeen via the North Sea from the remote Orkney and Shetland islands.
