As a prominent oil city, Aberdeen has managed to stay unspoilt by the energy boom and is today the leading port, cultural centre and tourist destination on Scotland’s east coast.
Aberdeen Art Gallery: now close to 125 years old, this intriguing collection mainly features Scottish and English artists from the past 200 years along with an extensive assortment of silver and glassware. An impressionist streak is particularly pronounced here.
King’s College: dating back to the late 1400s, King’s College is Aberdeen University’s most impressive historical site and was once the first seat of the study of medicine in the whole of the English-speaking world.
Aberdeen Beach: often overlooked as a beach destination, Aberdeen does in fact sport a beautiful stretch of sandy coastline with seas that stay icy cold for most of the year outside of summer. The Beach Leisure Centre offers a pool with slides for when the weather is not up to it.
Belmont Street: is a lively, old stretch of markets, stalls and arts. The street comes alive after dark, making it one of the most popular night venues in the city thanks to its many bars and clubs.
