Introduction to Thurso - Castletown
Castletown, located in the far north of Scotland and around 10kms from Thurso, is a small village of around 800 inhabitants. The village is situated on the A836 road which connects Thurso in the west and John O' Groats in the east. The town centre has many of the facilities associated with small Scottish villages, including a butcher's, a general store, a petrol station and even a fish and chip shop. There are also a couple of Castletown hotels. Just a few kilometres to the northeast is Dunnet Bay, which boasts an attractive stretch of sandy beach and a nice footpath just behind it offering superb walking. Castletown also has a small harbour which is the starting point for the Flagstone Trail, laid to celebrate the town's industrial heritage. Near the harbour is an old, ruined windmill as well as the ruins of the Castletown Mill, originally built nearly 200 years ago to process locally grown corn.other spellings: castletownhotels, cestletown otel, casteltown hotell, castle town hote, castle tow hotle
