Introduction to Tain, Scotland

The Highlands town of Tain in Scotland's Ross and Cromarty district sits on the A9 roadway as well as the Far North Line railway. This town of 4,000 residents features a number of comfortable Tain hotels to accommodate those wishing to enjoy the local museum, distillery or notable buildings. St Duthus Collegiate Church and Tain Tolbooth are two of the town's most distinctive landmarks and worthy of a visit, while the Tain Through Time museum is a winner with kids. A must-visit for Scotch whiskey lovers is the Glenmorangie Distillery, where visitors can learn about the production process as well as sample the final product. A short drive out of town on the A836 will bring travellers to a viewpoint offering priceless vistas over Sutherland and the Dornoch Firth. Also not to be missed are the nearby castles of Carbisdale, Skibo and Dunrobin; the latter features lovely gardens and is open to the public.
