Introduction to Stirling - Callander
The small town of Callander is found deep in Rob Roy country, around 30kms northwest of Stirling. The town has just fewer than 3,000 inhabitants. Despite its small size, it has a handful of tourist attractions including the Rob Roy and Trossachs Visitor Centre, which exhibits the life and times of the Scottish folk hero and outlaw, and the Hamilton Toy Museum, where visitors can take a trip back to their childhood and see all the toys they grew up with. Callander is situated at the eastern entrance to Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, with Loch Lomond being little more than 20kms away. The north of the town is dominated by the Callander Crags, which rise 343m and are part of the Highland Boundary Fault. There is a good golf course just outside of town which is popular among visitors, many of whom stay in Callander hotels in the town centre. There is nice square with many impressive old buildings in the centre of the town, while the main road passing through is the A84, which links with Stirling.
