Introduction to Selkirk, Scotland
The Scottish Borders town of Selkirk has connections to two of Scotland's most famous figures. It was here that William Wallace was nominated as the guardian of Scotland and that Sir Walter Scott once worked at the Courthouse. This popular destination on the Ettrick Water is packed with fascinating history. The sole survivor of the Battle of Flodden in 1513, a Selkirk man named Fletcher, is commemorated in a statue outside Victoria Halls. Having started as a wool town, Selkirk today is better known for its local delicacy, bannocks, a tasty fruit cake. Guests at Selkirk hotels can pay a visit to the local art gallery or museum, but it is the horseracing track, Scotland's oldest, that serves as a highlight for many. The Gala Rig, as it is known, sits on the outskirts of town and sees events year-round. The town's ancient site of Forest Kyrk is the burial spot of a number of relations of Franklin D Roosevelt. other spellings: sekirkhotels, selkirk otel, selirk hotell, serkirk hote, selkrk hotes, slekirk
