Introduction to Prestwick, Scotland
The town of Prestwick is located on Scotland's southwest coast and is most famous as the home of Glasgow’s Airport, one of Scotland's biggest airports and the only place Elvis Presley was known to visit in the United Kingdom. Many airport passengers decide to stay in Prestwick hotels before making the 48kms journey to Glasgow, but most accommodations here are not the typical chains that surround the majority of major airports. On the contrary, they are picturesque inns, self-catering cottages located in ideal bird watching territory, or intimate guesthouses. The Prestwick Old Course, which was the first host of the prestigious Open Golf Championship between the years 1860 and 1872, is right on the outskirts of town. An ancient graveyard that surrounds the ruins of a 12th century church, one of Europe's biggest bowling stadiums, and an esplanade which stretches over one and a half kilometres next to the bay are among Prestwick’s other main attractions.other spellings: prestwikchotels, prestwcik otel, prestiwck hotell, preswtick hote, pretswick
