Introduction to Orkney, Scotland
The 70 islands that form the archipelago known as the Orkney Islands are located 16kms northeast of mainland Scotland. Only 20 of the 70 islands are inhabited, but although this region’s population may be small, the number of accommodations here is substantial. Most hotels in Orkney can be found in the archipelago's largest settlement, Kirkwall, which is located on the north coast of the biggest of Orkney's islands called 'the Mainland.' The port community of Stromness and the island of Westray also contain quite a few tourist amenities catering to the steady flow of tourists who come to these remote islands in search of a side of Scotland seemingly lost in time. The most popular tourist attractions include several ancient Neolithic ruins, scuba diving sites, Sanday's beautiful beaches, and Scotland's third oldest lighthouse of Old Beacon on the island of North Ronaldsay. The more popular towns get very busy in the summer, so make your bookings well in advance.other spellings: orkneyhotels, orkmey otel, orknye hotel, orkeny hotell, ornkey hote, okrney
