Introduction to Oban - City Centre
Oban is a town on the west coast of Scotland which attracts those interested in sea kayaking, as well as those who would like to enjoy some of the best nightlife in the region. In addition, shoppers flock here, particularly to stock up on the famous local whiskey. The town is a busy port town and a number of passenger ferries depart for the Hebrides, the famous Scottish islands, from here. Hotels in Oban city centre can be split into three categories: budget, mid-range and luxury. McCaig’s Tower, dedicated to John Stuart McCaig, can be walked to in 15 minutes from the town centre for pleasant views over the Sound of Mull. History buffs can visit the former seat of the MacDougalls of Lorn, nearby Dunollie Castle, or Dunstaffnage Castle, which is slightly farther away at three miles north. The town’s military history is best learned of at the War & Peace Museum, close to North Pier.
