Every summer, the population of the small Scottish village of Lochgoilhead more than doubles due to the large influx of tourists who visit this picturesque village in the Scottish Highlands. The town received its name because of its location by the head of a lake named Loch Goil. The permanent population here is less than 400 people, but this small village surrounded by mountains has many good quality Lochgoilhead hotels located in the downtown core. The town itself offers a decent array of services and amenities catering to tourists, including a variety of eateries and specialty shops. Many visitors choose to stay out in the Argyll Highlands, where there are recently opened caravan sites and campgrounds, so as to be more immersed in the surrounding nature. Lochgoilhead also contains two centres for outdoor education, and although the village's location is fairly isolated, most of its visitors believe this stunning part of the Scottish Highlands is worth the trip.
