Introduction to Lanark, Scotland
Located in the part of Scotland known as the Central Belt because it contains the country’s highest population density, Lanark is typical of many old Scottish towns. Located conveniently between Edinburgh and Glasgow, the town is a popular stopover for travellers on this route. Those who decide to stay over in the town will find that Lanark hotels include a tremendous amount of historic bed and breakfast homes and farm stays in the countryside. Lanark is primarily famous as the birthplace of William Wallace, the Scottish patriot whose life was depicted in the film Braveheart. Other attractions not far from Lanark include the rural market town of Carluke and the scenic Clyde Valley. There are plenty of traditional restaurants and pubs in town catering to the local population, but for the most part there isn't much of a tourism infrastructure. Most tourists stop off to check out the Braveheart memorabilia before continuing on their way.
