Introduction to Isle of Skye, Scotland
The Isle of Skye is the largest of the Inner Hebrides Archipelago’s islands. The Isle of Skye is the archipelago’s northernmost island and is situated off mainland Scotland’s west coast and can be reached via the Skye Bridge or by passenger ferry. Portree is the island’s principal town and a fine selection of Isle of Skye hotels can be found in the environs of Portree’s picturesque fishing harbour. Additional Isle of Skye hotels are dotted around the island, mainly in the sheltered bays on the rugged coastline. The bays contain pristine white sandy beaches and are overlooked by the Cuillin Hills. These are the backbone and from which the island's peninsulas radiate. Isle of Skye hotels are a good start point for hiking or climbing in the hills. Diverse wildlife including golden eagles and red deer is often spotted and for the keen angler, the island’s streams contain trout and salmon. Sea cruises from Skye provide an opportunity of glimpsing a dolphin, a seal or a minke whale.
