Introduction to Isle of Arran, Scotland
Scotland's seventh-biggest and southernmost island, the Isle of Arran, is among Scotland's best known tourist destinations. Many people describe this fascinating place as a 'Scotland in miniature' because the island's geology is very similar to mainland Scotland. The Isle of Arran may be small in both size and population, but the number of natural and cultural attractions it offers is quite expansive. Lamlash is the island’s largest village with plenty of tourist amenities and historic ambiance, but many visitors head straight over to the smaller village of Brodick, home of the picturesque Brodick Castle. Isle of Arran hotels range from four-star hostels to two self-catering cottages with seaside views and a resort providing three different types of accommodation. The hotels on the island are actually great spots to spend your evenings, as they typically contain festive local bars where folk music sessions are a common nightly event. Most of the island’s villages, however, have a pub or two catering to the local population.
