Greenock in Inverclyde is no longer the mighty shipbuilding centre it once was, yet evidence of its shipbuilding heritage can be seen at Garvel dry dock, where repairs are still carried out. Today, the town serves as a major freight exchange, with containers passing through its Ocean Terminal. This terminal is also where cruise liners make their stops in west Scotland dock. Guests at Greenock hotels will find themselves within easy reach of attractions like the Mclean Museum, the Guild Theatre and the Great Harbour. The former is Inverclyde's biggest museum, featuring local as well as ancient Egyptian artefacts, among other exhibits. The latter is a key hub for the Royal Navy. One of the most pleasant ways to pass an afternoon in town, however, is not sightseeing, but simply strolling along the esplanade. Here, walkers can take in a boat club, the coastguard centre, as well as the docked HMS Dalriada. The town is well connected by rail and road to the likes of Edinburgh.
