Introduction to Edinburgh - Queensferry
Sticking provocatively out into the wonderfully-named Firth of Forth, Edinburgh’s bedroom community of Queensferry provides a country feel just minutes from the big city. It’s hard to miss the two massive bridges than span the Firth of Forth, connecting South Queensferry with its northern counterpart. The Forth Railway Bridge, built in the late 1800s, is a marvel of engineering and one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks. There are a number of other historic structures in town like the Jublilee Clock Tower, the Black Castle and Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church, which dates to 1441. These buildings give the town a wild, historic atmosphere and serve as Queensferry hotels to travellers who wish to linger. Just outside of town is Hopetoun House, a grand Georgian estate and the main attraction in these parts. Visitors with a car can explore several old, noble estates surrounding Queensferry as well as make the awesome trip across the water via the bridge. Each August, the Ferry Fair takes place as it has since the 12th century, adding a major dose of colour to this quaint little town. Visit our Edinburgh Travel Guide
