Introduction to Edinburgh - Airport
The busiest airport north of the border in Scotland, Edinburgh International lies 16kms from the city, on the M8 motorway, and hosts a wide choice of domestic routes plus international links to other places in Europe and North America. The city is a favourite international tourism destination for its culture, arts, chequered history and famous Edinburgh Festival. The airport handles eight million passengers annually in its upgraded terminal hall, with major expansion plans now on the cards. British Airways, KLM, Aer Lingus, Lufthansa, Air France and Scandinavian Airlines offer full service flights, with Ryanair, EasyJet and a number of other low-cost carriers picking up on budget routes, especially to southern Europe’s summer holiday destinations. A ground transportation tram service is scheduled to open, giving visitors easier access to Edinburgh Airport hotels than present bus and taxi-based options. The city itself has much to attract visitors, including its medieval heart, magnificent Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, St Giles’ Cathedral and many fascinating museums.
