Introduction to Dundee, Scotland
The Scottish city of Dundee sits in a beautiful part of the country and despite Edinburgh and Glasgow usually garnering more of the travel headlines, this city has plenty to offer visitors, not least its enviable location on the Firth of Tay. This is an old city, with a history stretching back more than 800 years, and travellers staying at Dundee hotels will find many excellent historic and contemporary attractions. One might start with a guided walk through local history. On the waterfront, the historic ship, the RRS Discovery, is easy to spot and among the top attractions. Easily found in the city centre, City Square is ringed by historic buildings and sports a number of monuments, including a large bronze statue of Desperate Dan, a comic character. About 15 minutes on foot to the west, the Verdant Works offers one of Europe's finest industrial museums. Castles offer plenty of fun, too, with the Mains Castle standing less than two miles to the north and Broughty Castle about 3.5 miles to the east.Visit our Dundee Travel Guide
