Riyadh Travel Guide
Al Musmak Castle: once a monument built by the former opponents of the father of modern-day Saudi Arabia, King Abdul Aziz, this castle is now a museum with its preserved mosque among other attractions on display. The watchtowers are worth a close look in particular. Make sure to check ahead as families can only visit on certain days of the week.
Al-Bathaa. Open: 08:00 to 12:00 and 16:00 to 21:00, Sat to Thu.
Geology Museum: given the importance of underground surveillance, geological surveys and mining in Saudi Arabia, this is a popular place for visitors. The museum looks at fossils, minerals and metals found below ground with particular reference to Saudi Arabia. This makes an interesting exhibition for those interested in science and will also keep children happy.
Prince Abdullah street. Open: 10:00 to 12:00, Monday to Sunday.
Money Museum: if there is one thing that is not in short supply in the Saudi capital, it’s cold, hard cash and there is plenty on display here. The exhibition mostly features currency from Arabian history but there is also international coinage on display too, mostly from the Gulf region.
Ma'azar street. Open: 08:00 to 12:00 and 16:00 to 20:00, Sat to Thu.
Riyadh Museum of History and Archaeology: split into eight different sections, this exhibition is perhaps the most complete set of Arabian artefacts combining to piece together the history and culture of the kingdom found anywhere in the country. Jewellery, weapons and clothes are among the pieces on display but there is much more besides.
Al-Bathaa. Open: 09:00 to 12:00 and 16:00 to 21:00, daily.
