Medina is a city in the Hejaz region of western Saudi Arabia, 200 miles north of Mecca, and serves as the capital of Al Madinah Province. It is the second holiest city in Islam, due to the fact that it is the burial place of Mohammad. Like Mecca, the city is strictly off limits to non-Muslims so tourists are advised not to visit as the penalties are severe.
