Alcohol is illegal here so there are no bars to choose from, not even in the major hotels. Expatriates living in Jeddah report that it is possible to get hold of liquor if you know the right people but this is not possible on a standard holiday here and anyway, drinking secretly in a dark room is hardly the way to spend a holiday.

Foreign consulates are another option but again you will have to know the right people to get in. If you want to make a night of it in Jeddah the best thing to do is to head out to dinner late once the prayers have finished, as many locals do themselves, and enjoy a nice meal with coffee afterwards.
