Introduction to Riyadh - Al Murabba
Al Murabba is a centrally-located district in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. Al Murabba hotels offer easy access to Riyadh's most prominent historical attractions, located in the grounds of the King Abdul Aziz Historical Park. Murabba Palace is the second-oldest palace in the city, built in 1936 by King Abdul Aziz in an attempt to protect Saudi royalty from any potential conquerors. Made from mud-brick, the palace is now free to enter without a permit. Next door, the National Museum is considered to be the city's top tourist attraction. Most of the exhibits are in English, using modern technology to tell the story of Saudi history going back as far as prehistoric times. Foreign visitors often join locals in exploring the museum's eight galleries, which are closed on Saturdays. At other times, entrance is restricted to men, women or families, so tourists should check ahead. King Khalid Airport is the nearest international airport to the district, around 22 miles away.
