Introduction to Najran, Saudi Arabia

In southwestern Saudi Arabia, Najran is a cosmopolitan city that was once an important stop on the historic trade route known as the Incense Road. Its proximity to the Yemen border has brought strong influences from the neighbouring country, and its long history has woven a wide mix of religions and cultures into the city's heritage. A circular wall separates the modern city from Old Najran, a significant archaeological site where pottery, glass and bronze artefacts have been found among the ruins. Other landmarks include a remarkable fortress, the Prince Turkey Al Madi Palace, an expansive souk and the Rass, an ancient two-metre high granite stone.
